EXCITING NEWS FOR ARCHITECT ASPIRANTS : NATA  2024 REGISTRATION OPENS ,NEW IMPROVISED  SYLLABUS AND PATTERN

Any person desirous of carrying on the profession of Architecture and using the title and style of ‘Architect’ must have registration with Council of Architecture. For the purpose of registration, one must undergo the education in accordance with the Council of Architecture Minimum Standards of Architectural Education Regulations, 2020 and possess the recognized qualification as appended to the Architects Act. 


Presently, there are about 375 Institutions imparting architectural education in India leading to recognized qualifications. The minimum standards of education to be imparted in architectural institutions (constituent colleges / departments of universities, deemed universities, affiliated colleges / schools, IITs, NITs and autonomous institutions) are prescribed and monitored by Council of Architecture by way of Regulations and norms & standards prescribed from time to time, which set forth the requirement of eligibility for admission, course duration, standards of staff & accommodation, course content, examination etc. 


National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is being conducted by COA since 2006, to qualify for the admission to Bachelor of Architecture. 


The candidates can appear for maximum of 3 attempts in NATA 2024 in one academic year. The best score out of all the attempts shall be considered for declaration of results. The score of NATA Test would be valid for a period of 2 academic years. 


Examination shall be conducted on all weekends starting from April to July, 2024 in two sessions, subject to number of candidates registered for the session. The candidates need to indicate their preference for session & city of examination while registering at NATA portal www.nata.in

The Tests shall be conducted as per the schedule as given below:

 

NATA 2024 EXAMINATION COMMENCING FROM : 06-04-2024

 

Session 1 : 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 pm (180 mins/3.0 hours) 

Session 2 : 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm (180 mins/ 3.0 hours) 

 

SYLLABUS

 

PARAT A- Drawing and Composition Test  - OFFLINE TEST : 90 MINS


A1- 1 Question - Composition and Color : 25 Marks

A2- 1 Question - Sketching & Composition ( black & White ) - 25 Marks

A3- 1 Question - 3D Composition - 30 Marks 

 

TOTAL : 3 QUESTION - 80 MARKS 

 

PART B - MCQ -Computer based online Test -90 Mins 


B1 - 30 questions x 2 Marks - 60 Marks
B2 - 15 questions x 4 Marks -60 Marks
Total 45 Questions – 120 Marks 


TOTAL MARKS: PART – A & PART – B = 200. 


The medium of Aptitude test shall be in English and Hindi.

PART-A 

 

Drawing and Composition Test 

 

This is one and half hour (90 minutes) – 80 Marks Test where candidate has to attempt three questions. The content of the PART A Test is as follows: 

 

  1. A1 - Composition and Color -25 Marks: Creating suitable compositions for various situations and coloring them appropriately. Re-arranging various shapes in visually appealing manner and coloring it suitably. 
  2.  A2 -Sketching & Composition (Black and White)-25 Marks: Ability to draw, visualize, depict a situation, involving buildings / its components, people, environment, products with an understanding of scale, proportions, textures, shades and shadow etc. 
  3. A3 - 3D Composition-30 Marks: Creating interesting 3D composition for the given situation using the provided kit. 


The drawing and composition test in NATA holds significant importance as it assesses a candidate’s visual ,creative , and artistic skills .This section aims to evaluate an individual’s abilty to observe and draw objects ,understanding of proportion and scale ,and the sense of aesthetics in architectural representation 


Through this test ,NATA aims to identify candidates who possess the essential spatial and design visualization skills crucial for success in the field of architecture .It helps evaluate how well candidates can translate their ideas into visual form, which is a fundamental skills for architects in conveying their concepts to others.


 PART-B


This is one and half hour (90 minutes), 120 Marks Test where candidate has to appear for online test.


It shall have two type of Questions viz., 


  1. B1 – 30 Questions of 2 Marks and
  2. B2 – 15 Questions of 4 Marks


 from the following topics: 

  1. 1- Visual Reasoning Ability to understand and reconstruct 2D and 3D composition, knowledge about its composition and technical concepts. 
  2. 2- Logical Derivation Ability to decode a situation, composition, context and generate meaning. Understanding the minute information hidden in a particular situation and drawing conclusions. 
  3. 3- G.K., Architecture & Design General awareness of architecture and design, current issues, recent episodes etc., Knowledge about important buildings, historical progression, innovation in materials and construction technology. 
  4. 4-Language Interpretation Ability to correctly & logically generate meaning of words, sentences, understanding about English grammar. 
  5. 5-Design Sensitivity Ability to observe record and analyze, people, space, product, environment. Critical thinking, reasoning and ability to identify the subtle communications. 
  6. 6-Design Thinking Ability to understand semantics, metaphors, problem identification and definition, analysis of a given situation. 
  7. 7-Numerical Ability Basic Mathematics and its association with creative thinking. To unfold a space
  8.  with use of geometry.

 

Indeed ,the aptitude test ,like NATA ,assesses candidates on various aspects. It typically evaluates their understanding of architecture ,drawing skills ,aesthetic sensitivity ,critical thinking ,and problem-solving abilities .The aim is to identify individuals with the aptitude and creativity needed for a successful career in architecture.


The multiple- choice questions (MCQs) are designed to gauge the aspirants’ analytical and conceptual skills ,as well as their ability to apply these skills in architectural contexts .This format allows candidates to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter within a limited time frame.
